Workday Studio: XSL, XSLT, and XPath

Workday Studio is a strong development tool allowing clients and partners to make advanced integrations to and from Workday.  In Workday’s data center, these integrations are deployed and run on your behalf on integration servers.

Workday Studio offers a rich , graphical development environment during which a user can drag and drop a selection of reusable components that handle the “plumbing” aspects of integration building, freeing you to specialize in the critical business logic.

XSL, XSLT, and XPath

XSL, XSLT, and XPath tools are powerful. That’s why Workday recommends using these tools to change the data, but to use them effectively. You should know their limitations. Workday loads messages into memory as DOM objects, so large documents will create obstruction or cause a server to terminate the process. 

XSL:

XSL may be a family of recommendations for outlining XML document transformation and presentation. It consists of few parts:

• XSL Transformations (XSLT): A language for transforming XML

• The XML Path Language (XPath): An expression language employed by XSLT to access or ask parts of an XML document

XSLT:

XSLT is meant as a special-purpose language for XML transformation. Using XSLT, an XML document is often transformed into a document of a special structure or format. XSLT sheet is meant to use a single XML document for various purposes.

XPath:

XPath uses a non-XML syntax so that it can be used in URIs and XML attribute values. XPath is especially utilized in XSLT but also can be used as a more powerful way of navigating through the DOM of any XML.
