History of Cloud Computing
Category: General Posted:Jun 22, 2015 By: Alvera AntoThe history of cloud computing is not very old and the first cloud computing services were launched in 1999 by Salesforce.com and Google. As business technology and internet was growing rapidly, cloud computing is the solution that can help business technology perform better.
Beginning of the year 2000 was an excellent time for an internet based company. The platform was very good for cloud computing to implement universal software interoperability. Salesforce.com was launched in 1999 and there was a first site that could deliver business applications from a normal website.
This development led to dot-com boom which became a platform for the internet based companies to grow rapidly as they were backed by lots of venture capital. Certain companies like Amazon and Google failed to earn huge profits in early years as they were spending a lot of money on improving technology and marketing efforts. The dot-com bubble was at peak on 10th March 2000. Companies like Cisco and Dell sold their stocks during this period. To survive in the global market business had to rethink their existing models that were given to customers. Many organizations had started offering services where internet was an integral part of their service. It was not only the medium to communicate with the customers or place orders.
In 2002 Amazon.com had introduced AWS (Amazon Web Services). This platform gave customers the ability to store data. In 2004 Facebook was founded, which revolutionized the way of communication between the users communicate. It also changed the method to store the data and thus cloud was a personal service.
In 2006, cloud services were expanded by Amazon. People could access their computers with EC2 that is Elastic Compute cloud. This also helped them in running the application on cloud. Then S3 Simple Storage Service was introduced as pay-as-you-go model for users and the industry. Then in 2007 Salesforce.com was launched. This platform was known as PaaS which helped companies’ developers to build, run and store the apps and websites that was required for the business in the cloud.
In 2010 Salesforce.com launched Database.com for the developers which were a cloud-based database. Thus in future Salesforce.com shall help the world connect and share on large scale.
