Category: General Posted:May 06, 2015 By: Alvera AntoGetting a promotion in an organisation isn’t always easy, but if a thorough analysis is done we can create a research and career plan.
Here is a seven step process:
Step 1: Current performance must be analysed: Promotion happen only when you deliver an outstanding performance. Try to analyse daily jobs and the performance expectation by manager.
Step 2: Try to find more about your manager’s goal. Find out manager’s objectives and priorities. Then you can determine ways by which you can achieve these goals.
Step 3: Conduct market research. Try to find the job description that suits you and by this way you know about the openings in other companies also.
Step 4: Try to evaluate the job requirements.
Try to analyse the job descriptions and posting. Conduct gap analysis. Comparing your skills, education and experience try to find the gap areas.
Step 5: Make your own career development plan. Whenever you identify a gap, make your plan of action and try to overcome this gap.
Step 6: Try to obtain feedback. Try to seek from others who are successful in the job. Show your interest toward the similar job in future and be open to their feedback.
Step 7: Schedule regular Meet with your boss. Once the previous steps are completed try to schedule time with your boss and discuss your career aspiration and career plan. Make your career development plan with your manager and ask for feedback or any other question that bothers you. This shall help you to be in better position. Ask for support and regular meetings to help you continue on the right path of learning and development in your career.
